Recreation through Sorensen's/HV Resort

Fishing
From April to October, the waters of the West Fork of the Carson River, which snakes through the heart of Hope Valley, offer some of the best trout fishing in the Sierra. The river cascades through Hope Valley Resort down Woodfords Canyon. Hope Valley Outdoor Recreation Center, located at HVR, offers bait, maps, books and flies. Nearby Sorensen's Resort offers fly-fishing lessons through Horse Feathers Fly Fishing School and other fly-fishing programs and supplies.

Hiking
There are literally hundreds of miles of little-used trails within minutes of HVR or nearby at Sorensen's Resort. With hundreds of acres of national forest lands and protected wilderness in any direction, the options are almost endless. Of special note is the premier regional guide "Alpine Trailblazer" for hiking, fishing, biking, skiing and paddling. Available at Hope Valley Outdoor Center and Sorensen's for $15.95

Kayaking/Mountain Biking/Rafting
The East Fork of the Carson River, a short drive from Sorensen's and Hope Valley Resort, offers exhilarating rides through rugged, rock-walled canyons, May through July (water levels permitting). Call for referrals to expert guides. Or, rent a kayak at Hope Valley Outdoor Center and enjoy a paddle on a nearby lake. Bicycles are also available for rent with directions to great road and trail biking experiences.

Wildflowers
Summer finds many of our meadows literally overflowing with flowers. We'll tell you where to find peak blooms and when. Guided wildflower walks with expert botanists are also available in peak season.

Mountain/road biking
For excellent and often challenging mountain biking, dirt roads access many of the region’s loveliest valleys. If you don’t have gear, consider renting a mountain bike at Hope Valley Outdoor Center or stop in for suggested routes. Expert riders will tell you where to go, depending on your ability and experience.

Horseback riding
Nearby corrals offer rides in mountain, valley, and high-desert settings. Come experience the mountains the way it was done when the Pony Express rode through the region over a century ago.

History treks
Learn about the historic Emigrant Trail on fascinating history hikes with local experts. A wonderful experience for all ages and hiking abilities.

Llama tours
Local outfitters take you on wonderful wanders, complete with picnics, with these furry pack animals. A great event for the kids!

Swimming
